What Is The Carpenter Ant?

Smarter Than The Average Ant
If you need to know anything about the carpenter ant, you’ll need to know they are much harder to detect and eliminate than the average ant species. The reason for this is because they don’t necessarily have to depend on anything in the home to survive. Unlike other ant species, these pests can thrive on food sources found outside the home. Some of the worker ants of this species will even travel 1,000 feet or more from their colony to find food. This is just how the species can go years and years before getting detected in the home.
Larger Than The Average Ant
Not only is the carpenter ant smarter than your average ant species, but they are larger as well, making them even more intimidating. They are big, black, or red insects with single nodes between their thoraxes and abdomens. Look for this distinguishing mark and it’ll make them much easier to identify than your average ant species. If you happen to find one of the pests crawling around the home, do not write the incident off because it likely means there is a whole colony, lurking not far behind. They are a very social insect, as like many other ant species.
